Apostilles and authentication in Germany. Legal service

The Federal Office of Administration officially certifies signatures on German official documents for use abroad. Besides, it issues apostilles on federal documents for use in accession countries of the Hague Convention.

The Federal Republic of Germany has concluded a separate agreement with 22 states on the authentication of German public documents. After the final certification, the documents can then be presented to the representation of the respective state for legalization. List of states or representations for which a final certification by the BVA is required

Before a German official document can be finally authenticated in this states, it must be pre-authenticated by the Authentication General of Germany.
